Dr. Sumi Singh is a Research Specialist at Washington University-Saint Louis School of Medicine, specifically working under the umbrella of the Institute for Informatics for the Department of Anesthesiology. She previously held a tenure track position as an assistant professor of computer science, in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, at the University of Central Missouri.
She got her doctorate from the Center for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Louisiana Lafayette in 2015. She holds a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, and another Master of Science degree in Computer Science from University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
Her research interests are in the applications of information retrieval and data mining techniques in bioinformatics and healthcare. Her primary research areas involve use of computational methods for protein structure comparison, micro-RNA target-function-gene discovery, and in evidence based medicine.
She has mentored several undergraduate and graduate student-researchers. She is an advocate for encouraging women to participate in more computing and is an active member of ACM-W and CRA-W.
